what I learned in law school
hazing is still embraced by some communities
some people lean real hard on the reps of their undergrad and grad schools
no one cares about improving the pedagogy--at least no one cares enough, those who have been successful in the system like it the way it is just fine
I am not an audio learner and I still loathe lectures
21-22 year olds can be v. annoying now I understand why some people did not like me in grad school
BUT they can memorize a lot and get by on little sleep hence my great success in grad school
resigned to coffee addiction whenever I am a grad student
other people never really understand
you are bonded by your shared pain and lack of sleep
no one ever takes you to the side to teach you how to speak well
being able to type quickly is an advantage in some contexts
laugh a lot while you still can
no one will come for your soul if you do not first give it up at the door
the golddigging husband seekers really are here
it is the land of tiny women, many quite well groomed thso esilly boys over in Japan seeking teh elusive petite feminine ideal could have just gone to law school....
have not learned it yet but have several hypotheses what a lifetime of anorexia and/or bulimia will do to a person
lots of short men in law
lots of tall women
everyone assumes that you are young unless you look older
men cry a lot in public sometimes
if you want interesting you have to give up stability, you want the latter, you have to give up the former
all white people are the same to some people but some places have a greater variety of white people, some of just one or two European origins--those whites tend to look different
Sexism is still going strong
ditto homophobia
ditto classism
ditto religious prejudices
did I mention how much sexism persists to be a problem?
things are still run by old white guys from east coast schools
reinforcement of my belief that how a person acts when they ahve someone else in a vulnerable position is v. telling
as long as you belive in it it can be true but stop believing in something and pursue some alternative values and you may enjoy yourself a lot more
standardized tests are still lazy assessment
admissions brings in a lot of money
